Planned Giving Options

Planned Giving Options

Include CCR in your estate plan or establish an annuity and you will become a member of The Thelma Newman Planned Giving Society. The Thelma Newman Society is named for CCR co-founder Mort Stavis’ legal secretary at the United Electrical Workers. Thelma was not a wealthy woman, but she gave an estate of $150,000 to further the work of CCR. She hoped that her generosity would inspire others to join her to ensure the promise of progressive legal work for the next generation. Please consider becoming a member of the Thelma Newman Society by including CCR in your estate plan. The following options are the most frequent vehicles for remembering CCR and making a legacy gift.

Charitable Gift Annuities
A gift annuity is a simple contract between you and the Center for Constitutional Rights. In exchange for your contribution, CCR contracts to make fixed, guaranteed payments for life. The amount paid is based on your age at time of the gift, in accordance with CCR's rate schedule. Payments are usually made in annual or quarterly installments.

A Charitable Gift Annuity provides a fixed, guaranteed income to you, and if you choose a two-life plan, to your beneficiary. The older you (and your beneficiary) are at the time of your gift, the higher your rate of return. A charitable gift annuity entitles you to an immediate income tax deduction. And after your lifetime, your gift's remaining principal passes to the Center. You may establish a Gift Annuity with a gift of cash or marketable securities. A portion of your income from a Gift Annuity may be tax-free (depending on the assets donated) and if you contribute appreciated securities your capital gains will be significantly reduced.

Bequests
Your Will is the document through which you may pass on your legacy to family, relations and charitable organizations that you support.  We encourage you to discuss your estate plans with your attorney or tax advisor. If you are considering including the Center for Constitutional Rights in your will, please contact us. All inquiries are kept in the strictest confidence, but we'd like to be able to thank you.

Please contact CCR at 212-614-6489 or at development@ccrjustice.org to discuss planned giving options.

There are many ways to make a planned gift to CCR. The best vehicle for you depends on your individual circumstances. Please discuss your gift planning desires with your accountant or other advisor and with CCR before making a decision on this matter.
