New “Activist Files” Episode: Will the UN Finally Unite Around People of African Descent?

Latest “The Activist Files” episode: Will the UN finally unite around people of African descent?

For episode 53 of “The Activist Files,” we’re sitting down to chat about the newly established UN Permanent Forum on the People of African Descent (UNPFPAD). On the occasion of the first session of the forum, the Center for Constitutional Rights traveled to Geneva to build solidarity with comrades from around the world committed to helping advance the mandate of the forum. In this episode, our Executive Director, Vince Warren, has a conversation with Gay McDougall, member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and former Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, and Amara Enyia, Chair of International Civil Society Working Group for PFPAD. Gay and Amara discuss their experiences serving in different UN groups and the significance of groups in advancing racial equity around the world.

Beyond the Bars Conference, "Seeding Justice", March 24-26

Movements for justice have increasingly looked for ways to cultivate healing, accountability, and transformation, for both people and communities,  and to hold harmful carceral systems to account. Beyond the Bars is an annual interdisciplinary conference on mass incarceration organized by the Center for Justice at Columbia University. Beyond the Bars 2023 is bringing together people, organizations, and movements working on Indigenous peacemaking, transformative healing, and reparative justice to share strategies and build solidarity. BTB 2023 will be an opportunity to learn from people who are taking up non-carceral, non-punitive approaches in their own communities. RSVP on the Eventbrite page.
