Family of slain journalist Shireen Abu Akleh speak outside Capitol demanding accountability and end to Israeli impunity 

Three members of the Abu Akleh family––brother Anton, niece Lina, and nephew Victor––spent last week in D.C. meeting with members of Congress (full list below) and administration officials, including the Department of Justice. Despite no clear commitments from Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the family continues their push for a credible and transparent U.S. investigation that leads to meaningful accountability for Israel’s killing of Shireen.

After a meeting with Secretary Blinken, the Abu Akleh family said in a statement that, “[Secretary Blinken] has a duty to protect every U.S. citizen. We will hold him to this. Nothing short of a U.S. investigation that leads to real accountability is acceptable, and we won’t stop until no other American or Palestinian family endures the same pain we have.”

The Akleh family’s week of meetings with Congressmembers and Thursday’s press conference were covered by CNN, Al Jazeera English, and Politico, among others. Lina Abu Akleh, also penned a piece for the Washington Post titled The U.S. must end Israel’s impunity and investigate my aunt’s killing.
