Center for Constitutional Rights Legal Director Baher Azmy will participate in a town hall organized by the Project On Government Oversight.

Twenty years on, the repercussions of 9/11 are still felt deeply around the world. On Constitution Day, this Project On Government Oversight town hall will take a look at one of the most dangerous and enduring consequences of the United States’ war on terror: state secrecy and the government’s persistent effort to shield from the public vital information about its conduct in the war on terror. Participants will examine how the U.S. has abused claims of state secrecy and national security to prevent the public, as well as victims of state-sanctioned abuse, from knowing to what extent our constitutional and human rights have been sacrificed and for what ends. We will examine the ways in which the narrative of security vs. freedom has been weaponized to hide the truth about state-sanctioned torture and unchecked abuse of power — and how this imperils the democratic process and harms sound policy-making to this day.
