UN Gaza war crimes report may bolster Palestinians’ ICC case, experts say

In a bid to open criminal proceedings against Israel for its 50-day-long attack on Gaza that left thousands dead last summer, the Palestinian Authority is expected to submit its first file to the International Criminal Court in The Hague as early as this week.

Analysts say the PA, which joined the ICC in April, will likely make use of a U.N. report released Monday that found evidence of both sides of last year’s war, which began early in July 2014, had engaged in possible “war crimes.”

The U.N. report questioned Israel’s military tactics, reporting that Israeli air strikes and shelling killed 1,462 civilians in Gaza. In total, the conflict killed at least 2,100 Palestinians, 67 Israeli soldiers and six Israeli civilians. ...
