Join CCR at "Government Misconduct in America: Defending Dissent and the Rights of People of Color ," a discussion with CCR Racial Justice and Government Misconduct Attorney Anjana Samant.

The event will take place on Monday, May 18, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at the University Center.

CCR has filed two new cases in the last month, one challenging unlawful hiring practices by the U.S. Census, the second challenging the unlawful arrests of journalist Amy Goodman and two Democracy Now! producers at the 2008 Republican National Convention as part of a larger attack on a free and independent press.

Johnson v. Locke

Thousands of people of color who have applied or hoped to apply for temporary work with the 2010 Census have been deemed ineligible or deterred from the application process. The U.S. Census Bureau's practice of running job applicants' names through the FBI criminal records database, a notoriously inaccurate and incomplete database not just of convictions but of arrests that may not even have been prosecuted, disproportionally excludes applicants of color and deters them from completing the application process.

Goodman v. St. Paul

CCR filed a federal lawsuit against the Minneapolis and St. Paul police departments and officers, the municipalities, the Ramsey County Sheriff and unidentified Secret Service personnel challenging the policies and conduct of law enforcement during the Republican National Convention in 2008 that resulted in the unlawful arrests of Democracy Now! journalists as they were trying to report on public protest and political dissent.

We look forward to seeing you at the discussion of these and other recent cases. Thank you for continuing to stand with us.
