Basil Soper is the Media Associate at the Center for Constitutional Rights. He is a multidisciplinary writer, communications strategist, and documentary storyteller whose work centers on social justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, and media representation. As a Southern man of trans experience, Basil brings both lived experience and professional expertise to advancing equity and challenging discrimination. He is the Founder and Director of Transilient, a nationally recognized multimedia project led by trans people, and is currently developing "Fixin’ to Stay," a documentary about Southern trans and queer communities. Basil’s writing, in which he explores issues of identity, justice, and the experiences of marginalized groups, has appeared in outlets such as Harper’s Bazaar, INTO, THEM, and Refinery29. His first published chapbook, "Pixelated" (Tofu Ink, 2026), blends poetry and art to examine the intersections of digital life, self-discovery, and belonging.

A first-generation college graduate, Basil earned his BA in Creative Writing from The New School and his MA in Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement from NYU. At NYU, he developed digital humanities research and social justice projects focused on storytelling as a tool for advocacy. Using media as a tool, Basil is committed to humanizing marginalized voices, challenging misinformation, and advancing constitutional and human rights.
