Obama calls for support to close Guantanamo Bay detention centre

The US president Barack Obama has released a plan to shut down the controversial detention centre at Guantanamo Bay before he leaves office in January

He says the facility is an expensive recruiting tool for terrorists that harms America's relationship with its allies, but the president says he wants the support of a hostile Congress to close the centre once and for all.
