The attorneys representing detainees at the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, blasted President Trump’s suggestion to send the suspect in the New York City terror attack there as “deluded” and “idiotic.”

Representatives from the Center for Constitutional Rights, which has defended detainees in the prison, said Trump only wanted to send Sayfullo Saipov, the suspect in the Tuesday attack that left eight dead, to the facility because he’s Muslim.

“Guantánamo Bay is and always has been a prison exclusively for Muslims, which is undoubtedly the only reason Donald Trump made the idiotic suggestion to send Sayfullo Saipov there,” the attorneys said in a statement.

“Fifteen years has proven no one will ever be successfully tried or 'brought to justice' at Guantánamo, and the president and his supporters within his own party are deluded if they believe otherwise.”

The attorneys also claimed that Trump’s “hatred of immigrants and Muslims” is strengthening white supremacists and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
