Rally to Close Guantanamo and Stop Torture

Location

Lafayette Square
Washington, DC 20006

Join CCR in Washington, D.C. to mark the 16th anniversary of the opening of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Together, human rights activists, torture survivors, Guantanamo attorneys, 9/11 family members, and members of diverse faith communities will rally to close the prison, end indefinite detention, dismantle Islamophobia, and call for the immediate transfer of the cleared detainees.

More than a decade after they were first captured, 41 men are still held at Guantanamo; they bear the physical and psychological scars of torture and abuse. Five men have been cleared for release by the U.S., and the vast majority of the rest of the population has never been charged with or convicted of a crime. They remain indefinitely detained with no end in sight.

Together we will stand united against the system of institutionalized Islamophobia that made it possible for the prison to be in operation for this long and for individuals to be detained over a decade without trial.

We will meet at the north side of the White House at 11:30 AM. You can RSVP on the Facebook event page
