For decades, the powerful have attempted to silence their critics by filing meritless lawsuits intended to intimidate public watchdogs and advocacy groups. This repressive tactic — called “Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation” (SLAPPs) — is an abuse of the court system and a violation of the First Amendment rights of those who speak truth to power.
On September 5, CCR along with other individuals and advocacy groups threatened by SLAPPs, will rally against corporate bullies like the Kasowitz Benson Torres law firm and stand up for our First Amendment rights. This New York-based firm has been hired by logging giants and oil pipeline companies to sue advocacy organizations like Greenpeace — as well as dozens of individual climate activists.
Rally speakers include CCR's own Senior Staff Attorney, Shane Kadidal and other activists from Greenpeace, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the International Corporate Accountability Roundtable, the ACLU and more!
Free speech, freedom of assembly, and peaceful dissent are fundamental pillars of democracy. Let’s stand together as one to expose courtroom bullying, and protect the right to boldly speak the truth. Will you join us?
