Date

Add to My Calendar Monday, August 1, 2011 12:00am

Location

Please join the Center for Constitutional Rights in Brooklyn all next week Monday, August 1 – Friday, August 5, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day, for trial in United States and Vulcan Society, Inc., v. City of New York, a federal class action lawsuit filed on behalf of the Vulcan Society and three individual African-American firefighter applicants charging the New York City Fire Department with racially discriminatory hiring practices.
We have already won the underlying lawsuit: Next week, the Court will hold a critical trial to determine what changes and affirmatives measures the FDNY will have to take in order to remedy its longstanding pattern and practice of intentionally discriminatory hiring. Join CCR and pack the courthouse for this important racial justice development.

What: United States and Vulcan Society, Inc., v. City of New York
When: Monday, August 1 – Friday, August 5, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (arrive by 9:30 AM for security and seating).
Where: United States District Court, Eastern District of New York, 225 Cadman Plaza East, Courtroom 4D, Brooklyn, New York 11201

While the Black and Latino population makes up over half of New York City, Black and Latino firefighters comprise roughly 3 percent and 7 percent of the FDNY, respectively. The lawsuit represents a four-decade long struggle to desegregate the least diverse big-city fire department in America
