Join the Center for Constitutional Rights and The Promise of Justice Initiative on Saturday, February 8, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. CST, at Antenna in New Orleans, for the launch of the exhibit ABOUT TIME: Louisiana’s Jim Crow Juries and the Fight for Liberation. ABOUT TIME is a revealing exploration of the enduring effects of Louisiana’s non-unanimous convictions, also known as “Jim Crow juries.”

This exhibit showcases the artwork, storytelling, and vision of ten artists, formerly and currently incarcerated, who have been impacted by non-unanimous jury convictions. Artists include Center for Constitutional Rights client Rufus Henry, with Mondrell Wilson, Mark Cooper, Derrick Holt, Tuan Tran, Mark Stephen King, Peter Rubens, Keith Brazley, Lloyd Gray, and Anthony Boult. The works, including paintings, woodworking, and sculpture, were all produced from within the walls of Angola prison using found materials and supplies purchased in part with money earned from forced labor, with wages averaging 4 cents an hour.

The exhibit continues every weekend through March 31 and provides visitors with opportunities to write letters to their legislators and join in advocacy efforts ahead of the legislative session to make the end of non-unanimous juries retroactive and provide legal relief to hundreds of incarcerated people. Prints of the artwork, along with an accompanying publication, will be available for purchase.

The Center for Constitutional Rights has joined hundreds of lawyers as part of The Promise of Justice’s Jim Crow Juries Project in challenging these convictions and bringing justice to those still incarcerated. Learn more about our representation here: State v. Henry.
