Location

New York, NY

Please join CCR and our partners in the No Separate Justice (NSJ) campaign for our monthly vigil on May 2.

The May vigil will focus on the case of Ahmed Ferhani. In early April, Ahmed was put into a medically-induced coma after attempting suicide while incarcerated at the notorious Attica Prison. In the year leading up to this desperate act, he detailed a pattern of targeted violence and abuse at Attica. In 2012, Ferhani pleaded guilty to charges for discussing attacks on New York City synagogues with an undercover NYPD officer. The case against Ahmed was flimsy enough that the FBI removed itself from the investigation in its early stages. The NYPD continued to pursue him, despite its knowledge of his history of mental illness and self-harm.

Please join us in bringing attention to Ahmed's case. His dire medical situation is an indictment of our entire criminal justice system. You can read more in The Nation, “A Muslim Man Was Ensnared in a Terror Plot by the NYPD—He Just Attempted Suicide.”

Join the Facebook event and visit the NSJ website to learn more about the campaign.

Directions to the vigil: The closest subway to the MCC is the 4, 5, or 6 train to Brooklyn Bridge. Walk up Centre Street to Foley Square and look for Pearl Street, which is in between the two large federal courthouses on Foley Square. Walk down Pearl Street one block to where it dead-ends on Park Row. The vigil takes place on the corner across from the entrance to the MCC.
