CCR is pleased to co-sponsor a webinar event titled Insecure Communities: Government Surveillance, Mass Deportations, and the Fight to Protect Our Civil Liberties. The panel will feature CCR Legal Worker Ian Head, and the webinar will include information on topics listed below.
- Provide background on Secure Communities (S-Comm) and the FBI's Next Generation Identification initiative (NGI), a massive surveillance initiative to expand data collection and sharing between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. - Explain how the two programs interact and why immigrant rights and privacy advocates should be concerned about both
- Discuss recent advocacy efforts and begin a conversation about new opportunities for privacy and immigrant rights communities to work together to limit the reach of these programs.
