Join us for an engaging conversation between CCR Senior Staff Attorney Pam Spees, Kiobel lead counsel Paul Hoffman, and others on the intersection of human rights and LGBTIQ rights, moderated by Professor Aslı Ü. Bâli.

The event will focus on SMUG v. Lively, a federal lawsuit on behalf of a non-profit umbrella organization for LGBTI advocacy groups in Uganda against Scott Lively, a U.S.-based anti-gay extremist, for his role in the persecution of LGBTI people in Uganda, in particular his active participation in the conspiracy to strip away their fundamental rights. Pam Spees, lead counsel in the case, will deliver a keynote address discussing the case, human rights lawyering, lawyering for the rights of sexual minorities, and the future of the Alien Tort Statute. A panel including Pam, Paul Hoffman, and Jesse Bernstein will follow the keynote address to discuss various approaches to achieving LGBTI rights around the globe, including but not limited to the use of the Alien Tort Statute.

Click here to RSVP online. The event will be followed by a courtyard dinner reception and cocktail hour, with networking opportunities for students.
