Defending the rights of detainees during COVID-19

As COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to rise, the pandemic is exposing and exacerbating stark systemic inequities, and people in confinement are especially at risk. Already facing limited access to medical care and mistreatment throughout the criminal justice and immigration systems, they have limited ability to practice social distancing and proper hygiene, and they are at disproportionately higher risk for underlying health conditions. Join the Alliance for Justice in hearing from leading attorneys and advocates defending the rights and health of people in detention. Speakers include Katherine Rosenfeld, Partner at Emery Celli, and Professor Betsy Ginsberg, Director of the Cardozo Civil Rights Clinic, who are both leading the litigation seeking the release of 540 people detained in Brooklyn’s federal jail, and Baher Azmy, Legal Director at the Center for Constitutional Rights. A Q&A will follow the discussion.
