CCR News: The ICC must end impunity and open an investigation into crimes committed in occupied Palestine

The ICC must end impunity and open an investigation into crimes committed in occupied Palestine

Together with 25 civil society organizations, we issued an open letter to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to urge her to open an investigation into the situation in Palestine. A preliminary examination into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied Palestinian territory, including related to the 2014 military offensive on Gaza when 1,600 Palestinian civilians were killed, was opened in January 2015.

Since then, at least 550 more Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured by Israeli forces, many of them while protesting to demand their right to return to their homes and to lift the 12-year closure on the Gaza Strip. Since 2015, hundreds of Palestinian families have seen their houses and their businesses destroyed by Israeli settlers and have been forced to leave their land, while in the occupied Gaza Strip, Palestinians are denied freedom of movement and can't access basic, life-sustaining services.

Raise awareness on what's been happening in Palestine, and the call for accountability: read and share our letter to the International Criminal Court.

Since 1987, every summer we've had the pleasure of training the next generation of social justice lawyers through the Ella Baker Summer Internship Program which was created to honor the legacy of Ella Baker, a hero of the civil rights movement.

Through our program, interns gain practical litigation experience and sharpen their theoretical understanding of the relationship between social change, organizing, and lawyering. Ella Baker Interns also become connected to a global community of social justice law students and lawyers through our Ella Baker Alumni Network.

If you're a 2L, the deadline for applying is October 16, while 1L applicants may upload their applications between December 3 and 17, 2018.
