Twice cleared for release, but still a prisoner of Guantánamo

Reminders of Fahd's absence are everywhere. I see Fahd's face whenever I visit our mother, or call Fahd's wife, or give a gift to Hafsa. It is not a burden; I am honored to have become the guardian of Fahd's family. But standing in his shoes makes me miss him all the more.

Fahd has been cleared for release twice, in 2007 by President George W. Bush and in 2009 by President Barack Obama. Each time, I took the responsibility of preparing my family for his return. I traveled to neighboring villages to notify extended family. I made arrangements for a celebration to welcome Fahd and to help him stand on his own again....
