CCR is excited to be a partner at Photoville 2015—one of the largest annual photographic events in New York City. Photoville 2015 will present more than 60 photo exhibitions & outdoor installations that create a unique space for photographers and audiences to connect through the power of visual storytelling.
We’re proud to sponsor friend and ally Debi Cornwall’s thought-provoking exhibit, Gitmo at Home, Gitmo at Play, Gitmo on Sale, which provides a rare look at the grim absurdity of daily life at the Guantánamo Bay prison through the residential and leisure spaces of prisoners and military personnel and gift-shop souvenirs.
The exhibit will be at Container #38, right next to Instagram's green double-length doublewide duplex. Just look for the Tiki Bar!
Debi Cornwall is a visual artist working at the intersection of fine art and documentary photography. Debi’s photographs examine the human experience of systemic injustice, trauma and transition; look to transcend simple labels of “perps” and “victims”; and explore the ways in which spaces reflect conflict and its aftermath. She is currently completing Beyond Gitmo, the third chapter in an ongoing project on the global legacy of Guantánamo Bay.
In addition to her ongoing exhibit, Debi will be discussing her work at Photoville’s "Influencing Policy and Social Change Through Photography" panel at 4pm on September 12. And you can meet the artist at her container from 3-5pm on September 19.
Photoville is free and open to the public. You can find out more about Photoville’s hours of operation, talks & workshops, and night-time multimedia screenings on their website.
