Bowoto v. Chevron: The Murder and Torture of Nigerians Protesting the Oil Company

Print Friendly and PDF

On May 28, 1999, Chevron, through its Nigerian subsidiary, participated in the murder, shooting, and subsequent torture of Nigerian villagers who were engaging in environmental protest against the oil giant. Chevron paid the Nigerian police and soldiers who conducted the attacks, ferried them to the attack zone and closely supervised them during the attack. CCR's case Bowoto v. Chevron - filed along with EarthRights International - seeks justice for the villagers who were injured and killed at Chevron's behest.
