CCR senior staff attorney Darius Charney will testify alongside government officials, academics, law enforcement, advocates, and others as part of a public briefing on NYPD policies and practices. The New York Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission for Civil Rights (USCCR) will hold a public briefing to examine whether the policies and practices of the NYPD have a disproportionate impact on youth of color. The committee will also look at the accountability policies governing members of the NYPD.

Of particular interest to the committee is whether NYPD policies and practices regarding “Broken Windows,” gang intervention, use of force, and school safety disproportionately affect youth of color. The committee will also look at the current structure and effectiveness of the internal and external oversight of members of the NYPD, including the role of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, body cameras, and officer training.

The event description and schedule can be found on the USCCR website, and there will be a livestream of the briefing online. Darius will testify on Tuesday, March 21, from 9:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
