Please join CCR for oral arguments on Wednesday, December 19th at 9:30 AM PST in East Bay Sanctuary Covenant v. Trump, a federal lawsuit brought with the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center challenging Trump’s asylum ban, which bars people seeking asylum at the U.S. southern border if they attempt to enter outside a port of entry.

Earlier this month, we celebrated a victory in our case when a federal judge temporarily blocked the ban. However, as CCR staff learned during recent visits to the border, access to asylum remains extremely difficult at ports of entry.  We are also challenging the Administration’s “Turnaway” policy at ports of entry in a related case, Al Otro Lado v. Nielsen.

The case was filed the day the Trump order went into effect, by grassroots organizations fighting for the rights of immigrants and refugees, including the East Bay Sanctuary Covenant, Al Otro Lado, Innovation Law Lab and the Central American Resource Center in Los Angeles. Our clients filed this legal challenge because the Trump administration's actions are contrary to basic asylum, reflect the administration’s contempt for Central and Latin Americans, and will have dangerous consequences to highly vulnerable populations fleeing unspeakable violence.

On Wednesday, December 19th, CCR will join legal co-counsel, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center to argue that the temporary restraining order issued last month should be converted into a preliminary injunction — a more long-standing block on the implementation of the ban. If you are in San Francisco, please considering packing the court.
