Join CCR Senior Staff Attorney Katie Gallagher as she discusses challenges to the U.S. interrogation and detention policies in the so-called "War on Terror" at Peace Event Sarajevo.

Peace Event Sarajevo will serve as an acknowledgment for all peace initiatives which have been flourishing for decades and a reminder that peace still needs to be fostered. Furthermore, it will represent an international exchange platform for debate and information on different topics related to nonviolence and peace.

The workshop addresses the role of justice in the context of different conflicts, and will discuss its relations with the politics and the role of civil society in guaranteeing accountability.

Speakers include: Katherine Gallagher (Human rights lawyer, GTMO, Center for Constitutional Rights), Sharon Weill (Sciences Po, Paris); Anisa Suceska-Vekic (BIRN director, Sarajevo); Bahaa Ezzelarab (Egyptian Initiative for personal rights', Cairo); Nery Ramati (Defense laywer in the Israeli military courts in Palestine); Bassem Tamimi (former political prisoner according to Amnesty International); Goran Simic (Transitionnal justice association, BiH)

The Peace Event Sarajevo 2014 will be:

  • A meeting point for activists, practitioners and researchers to exchange thoughts on peace and active nonviolence;
  • An opportunity to review the achievements and challenges related to peace and nonviolence in Europe;
  • An opportunity to present a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence in its diverse dimensions;
  • A space to plan joint initiatives for the advancement of a Culture of Peace.
