Columbia Law School's Human Rights Institute and the ACLU's Human Rights Program present Detention and Human Rights, featuring Sir Nigel Rodley, whose book, Treat of Prisoners Under International Law, was just published in its third edition. Sir Nigel will discuss the importance of a human rights frame work to protect the rights of those deprived of their liberty. The panelist will focus on issues of detention in four different contexts- prisoners' rights in the criminal justice system; immigration detention; prisoners in armed conflict and counter-terrorism situation; and juvenile detention- and the value a human rights framework would provide in addressing rights violations in the United States.
