Guantánamo and Beyond:The Supreme Court and the Future of Executive Detention

Time: 7:00pm-10:00pm

Emi MacLean, Staff Attorney with CCR’s Guantánamo Global Justice Initiative, will speak about June’s landmark Supreme Court victory for CCR’s clients in Guantánamo, in which the high court ruled that the men at Guantánamo cannot be detained indefinitely by the executive branch without fair hearings before a real judge. She will speak about how the decision will affect CCR’s work moving forward, and the future of executive detention.

She will also discuss the plight of Guantánamo’s refugees – men who languish in Guantánamo because they cannot return to their home countries due to the threat of torture and persecution. Join us at the River Garden to learn about the history of torture and persecution at Guantanamo and the international work to secure justice for the men at Guantánamo. Find out what you and your community can do to support Guantanamo’s refugees, and find out more about CCR’s vision to end torture, extraordinary rendition and arbitrary detention in the first 100 days of the next Presidential administration.
