What do you do when your country doesn’t recognize your right to safety, protection from harm, or freedom? In a world where homophobia and racism rule, violence toward women and gender-nonconforming people, especially queer people of color, is commonplace.

Those of us who have the privilege of calling the nights and weekends our time off choose to spend that time with friends and loved ones. However, for many in this country, and especially Black women and gender-nonconforming people, that time fosters hatred and breeds safety concerns that are sometimes a matter of life or death.

Join CCR for a special screening of Out in the Night, a film that recounts the startling experience faced by four Black lesbians who were out one weekend, enjoying each other’s company, and seeking a good time, only to be met with bigotry and violence. This film, and the talkback afterward, will showcase how these four brave individuals struggled for justice and fought for freedom.

After the screening, we will be joined by Renata Hill, queer activist and one of the New Jersey Four, and CCR Deputy Legal Director Alexis Agathocleous who provided legal representation for Renata on her appeal.

RSVP is strongly recommended but not required to attend.
