Last year, prisoners conducted a sixty day hunger strike to protest the inhumane conditions and brutal long-term confinement within California’s Secure Housing Units (SHUs). Their courage and determination garnered international support and widespread media coverage.

On Tuesday, Feb. 11th at 9:30 am PST, the California Public Safety Committee will hold a special hearing on “new policies” being proposed by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).This is the second hearing convened in direct response to this past summer’s massive prisoner hunger strike in protest of California’s use of solitary confinement in its notorious prison system. A rally will be held after the hearing.
