Since the 2009 coup d'etat, wide sectors of Honduran society have been politicized through grassroots organizing to form a diverse opposition to the coup regime. The political repression this resistance movement has faced has been severe; scores of political murders have taken place and resistance leaders report constant surveillance and threats. Yet this situation has been virtually ignored by much of the world outside of Honduras, and the United States continues to support the regime financially and politically. Come join OFRANEH, Rights Action and the Center for Constitutional Rights at this action-oriented panel discussion to learn about the struggle in Honduras, particularly in the coastal region of the Garifuna people where the struggle for land rights has intensified after the coup. The panel will provide an overview of current international solidarity efforts to support the Honduran resistance movement, including an international accompaniment project.
