With the release of the Senate CIA Torture Report earlier this month, the torture debate is going strong. Despite President Obama’s admission that “we crossed a line” and “tortured some folks,” and despite the report’s damning conclusion that torture didn’t work, those implicated in the program continue to defend CIA torture.

But what is there to debate? Torture is both illegal and immoral, plain and simple. The report shows unequivocally that the CIA tortured men like our client Majid Khan, whose name is mentioned hundreds of times, and lied about how the program operated and the usefulness of the information obtained. And the U.S. is obligated to prosecute high-level government officials who authorized, justified, and covered up these monstrous crimes.
