CCR Advocacy Program Manager Aliya Hussain will participate in a discussion, Art & Incarceration, at the Aperture Foundation. The program brings together artists and individuals who facilitate art projects to explore the ways in which incarceration impacts art-making for incarcerated artists and non-incarcerated artists concerned with the criminal justice system. Aliya will discuss the ways in which the Center for Constitutional Rights has worked closely with artists, musicians, and activists to bring the stories and artwork of men detained at Guantánamo to new platforms and audiences.

Panelists: Lisette Oblitas-Cruz, Aliya Hana Hussain, Jesse Krimes, Joseph Rodríguez. Moderated by: Nicole Fleetwood.

Art & Incarceration is part of a series of public programs that accompany the spring issue of Aperture magazine and the related exhibition, Prison Nation. Photographers, writers, historians, and activists will discuss the unique role photography, art, and storytelling play in understanding and creating a dialogue around the crisis of mass incarceration in the United States.
