April Freedom Flicks: The Square

Date

Add to My Calendar Thursday, April 30, 2015 6:30pm

Please join CCR and the Bertha Foundation on April 30th, 2015, for a free screening of The Square, an Academy Award-nominated film. Since 2011, the Egyptian Revolution and Egypt’s shifting political landscape have been headline news. With Jehane Noujaim’s groundbreaking film The Square, we’re offered a glimpse behind the headlines, as we follow the lives of young Egyptian revolutionaries. Armed with little more than cameras, social media, and determination, they put their lives on the line in the struggle for liberation.

The screening will be followed by a conversation about the film and Egypt’s current political landscape with documentary filmmaker and organizer Omar Robert Hamilton, Bertha Justice Fellow and author of “All According to Plan: The Rab’a Massacre and Mass Killings of Protesters in Egypt” Omar Shakir, former Senior Editor at Egypt Independent, Ahmad Shokr, and CCR Legal Director Baher Azmy.
