Freedom Flicks Presents: NYC Premiere of And Still We Rise

Registration is closed for this event

Resistance is key when state and religious actors escalate their efforts to deprive lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people of basic human rights.

Please join CCR and Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) for the New York City premiere of And Still We Rise, a film that documents the impact of the Anti-Homosexuality Act on the LGBTI community in Uganda. The film tells the stories of those human rights champions committed to resisting the efforts to erase Uganda’s LGBTI community. Among those at the forefront of the struggle is a network of Ugandan activists advocating for the promotion and protection of human rights, including those who are part of the lawsuit, SMUG v. Lively. The film stands as a testament to resistance against widespread repression, violence and dehumanization.

After the screening, we will be joined by the film’s co-directors, Richard Lusimbo of SMUG and Nancy Nicol for a discussion about the urgent need for global solidarity, a briefing on the current climate in Uganda, struggles for accountability, and why film and art are important advocacy tools.

Doors for reception with light refreshments at 6 pm; program begins at 7 pm.
