Attorneys: Trump Immigration Order Brutal

Rights groups offer toolkit for communities

January 25, 2017, New York – In response to Donald Trump’s executive order targeting immigrants, the Center for Constitutional Rights issued the following statement:

Trump’s executive order targeting immigrants by expanding brutal detention policies is immoral, costly, and destructive.

Combined with a decree to build a border wall that panders to hatemongers and a cruel decision to block refugees and visa applicants from Muslim-majority countries, Trump’s actions represent a betrayal of our most important political, moral, and constitutional values. Reviving the discredited Secure Communities program will hurt law enforcement and erode community trust, and Trump’s executive order to retaliate against cities and towns that seek to protect their immigrant communities and families is equally outrageous and anti-democratic.

The Center for Constitutional Rights will help immigrant communities defend themselves, and is prepared to organize with our allies to resist in the streets and in the courts: together we will stop ICE cold.

The Center for Constitutional Rights published a toolkit with the Immigrant Defense Project to inform the public about ways to protect against ICE’s unlawful tactics: “Defend Against ICE Raids and Community Arrests”.

The Center for Constitutional Rights works with communities under threat to fight for justice and liberation through litigation, advocacy, and strategic communications. Since 1966, the Center for Constitutional Rights has taken on oppressive systems of power, including structural racism, gender oppression, economic inequity, and governmental overreach.
