Fall is in the air and CCR is excited to bring you another compelling issue at our next First Wednesday on October 1st!

Did you know that the government operates a “No Fly List” in near-total secrecy, never telling people why they are listed or giving them a meaningful chance to dispute their placement? Worse, secret watch lists have grown astronomically under President Obama, ensnaring thousands of innocent people.

The No Fly List is one in a continuum of practices being used predominantly against Muslim-Americans in the post 9/11 era that CCR is challenging. Others include suspicionless surveillance, overbroad criminal charges, and brutal conditions of confinement. Come out for a drink and learn more about this Kafkaesque system and its damaging effects on our clients and their communities.

What: Short discussion, Q & A, and a chance to mix and mingle. CCR Senior Staff Attorney Shayana Kadidal and CUNY CLEAR’s Diala Shamas will discuss our case, Tanvir v. Holder, brought on behalf of four Muslim-American men who were placed on the No Fly List because they refused to serve as FBI informants and spy on their communities.
When: Wednesday, October 1, 6:00pm
Where: Von Bar, downstairs (B/D/F/M to Broadway Lafayette, F to 2nd Ave or 6 to Bleecker)
RSVP: Not required, but recommended. Register here.
Note: Cash bar with happy hour specials. This venue has stairs
