Biography

Tamara Jafar joined the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) in July 2009.  She assists the Guantánamo Global Justice Initiative with national and international advocacy efforts and helps coordinate a large network of pro bono counsel for Guantánamo litigation.

Prior to joining CCR’s staff, Tamara interned with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Amman, Jordan where she conducted research and worked on issues pertaining to the Iraqi refugee crisis.   In addition, she also interned at the Cultural Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq helping with the matriculation of Iraqi graduate students to U.S. institutions.  As an outgrowth of this work, Tamara founded Rally for Iraq, a non-profit organization committed to providing support for Iraqi students pursuing higher education.  She is proficient in both Modern Standard Arabic and the Iraqi dialect.  Tamara graduated in 2009 with honors from Harvard University.
